In 1993, I took a class called Design of Information Graphics, with Prof. Muriel Cooper, then the head of the Visible Language Workshop at the Media Lab. In addition to her tremendous lifelong exploits as a graphic designer, Prof. Cooper was a pioneer in the field of information architecture - design of dynamic, interactive "information spaces".

Below are some screen shots from my final project for that class, a 3D news browser where articles are represented as headlines flowing through space in a NewsStream, which can be "opened" to reveal articles and photographs. The streams can also be branched by inserting flags at specific points along the stream, and articles remain open or closed as the environment is navigated.
